NAME: Sophie Ward
BORN: 7 August 1985, Perth, Western Australia.
BASED: Between NYC, LA, Sydney, Perth and ye old French countryside.
AKA: Olive, Frida Sophia, Lou Andreas Salome, Marchesa Sophia. “Whoa you’re tall.”
LOVES: Men, family, witches, Big Sur, America, the birth and death of the universe, love and falling into it, philosophy, musicians, seekers, American road trips, bike riding, burning things, astronomy club, rural France, great food & wine, great people. New York City.
HISTORY PART 1 (MODELLING): Once upon a time I was model, snappled by Viviens at a Search for A Supermodel recording, where my little baby sister was wearing a muddy sweatshirt and walking for the cameras. She had no idea, I had no idea. Eventually, people were like “yo – what are you doing sitting there,” not because I was in the wrong seat, but because they wanted me to do some pounding on that catwalk. Gemma Ward didn’t go through with the other competitors that night, telling the cameras “oh well, at least it was good practice for acting.” After the show, agents pinned us to the staircase (not literal) and gave us cards. The groceries were melting in the back seat of the car. We went home, probably had some icecream, and absolutely no clue of what was about to come…. Go here to read more of that story…
HISTORY PART 2 (WRITING): Born and raised in Perth, which as we all know is a highly isolated place, I have been writing professionally for some time now: It was in my nineteenth year that the Clint Eastwood of the West, Justin Edward Jonathan Smith, alongside Mark Vassallo, hunted me down at the town Saloon, and requested my help in a mission they were undertaking. From then on, I have been providing my trusty services to other Lone Rangers from across the land and some seas too. Now putting my pen to that other frontier, America, I am traversing two horizons and seeing what settles when this dust is kicked up.
My first work was published in Mark Magazine alongside WA’s Tim Winton. My first book was written in 1993 when I was 8 years old and won the Miss Booker Literary Prize in Western Australia. My second book The Beginning of An Inexplicable Journey, concerns the steps of an inward journey which I was compelled to take, the call of which came from within the idyll and perfection of Perth. It is a universal journey with personal relevance, the documentation of a rugged transformation. Visit OUR TITLES if you would like to read an excerpt.
The Beginning of an Inexplicable Journey will be available in paperback edition in 2010 (unless sheriffs, cowboys, or tsunamis get in the way) *UPDATE: Inexplicable Journey is currently available as an eBook from our Paper Castle Store! See it to believe it!
Write her if you would like to know more, or require a pen for your paper. She breathes words.

I recently stumbled upon your blog and it’s superb! Quirky and poetic at once. Just wanted to say thank you for inspiring me as it’s been a long time since a writer has been able to do that
A truly inspiring blog you have created. I love the fact that you are a Carl Sagan fan! As a youngster I used to race home to watch his shows and spent many nights laying in the desert thinking about our universe. Keep up the fabulous work!
Tom, thank you so much!
